Cuba for reverse fall in number of international travelers

Cuba received a million 577 thousand 330 international travelers until July 2025, which represented 82.8 percent in relation to the same period of 2024, said the digital site Economic Agenda with information from the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI).

The descent implied 328 thousand 126 travelers less than in the same period of the previous year, according to preliminary data of the Identification, Immigration and Foreigners Directorate.

Of the total arrivals, one million 123 thousand 987 corresponded to international visitors, a figure that meant 76.8 percent compared to 2024, for a contraction of 338 thousand 922 people.

Canada, the main issuer market, contributed 478 thousand 388 visitors, 76.9 percent of what was registered in 2024. The Cuban community abroad totaled 141 thousand 046 travelers, 78.5 percent year -on -year.

The Russian Federation, considered one of the pillars of tourist recovery, showed a decrease of 41.8 percent, with 71 thousand 797 visitors in the analyzed period.

In traditional European markets there were setbacks: Spain represented 72 percent of the levels of 2024, France on 74.5 and Germany at 60.7.

Some countries reflected increases, such as Colombia, with 19,916 visitors, 107.3 percent, and Argentina, with 30 thousand 120 tourists, for 103.9 percent compared to the previous year.

These figures confirm the challenges of the Cuban tourism industry to recover the levels of arrivals achieved before the pandemic in a complex international economic scenario.

This generalized contraction responded to external and internal factors, including international inflation, the economic sanctions derived from the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, the impact of the punitive measures of the Trump government, the limitations in the quality of services due to the lack of supplies, in addition to the regional competition that remarkably affects, with destinations such as Dominican and Jamaic Part of the flow I preferred before.

The winter stage or high season, where there is the greatest influx towards the archipelago, will constitute an opportunity to verify the effectiveness of the strategies applied after the International Tourism Fair held in May, and trace the downward trends in the sector.
