Passengers describe the operation of the 10 Foton minibuses in the city of Holguin as fast, affordable, and highly comfortable. These buses contribute to regular public transportation on priority routes.
The vehicles, which have a capacity of 14 passengers and a cost of 20 pesos, facilitate mobility on a stretch that connects the three provincial medical institutions. The selected operating hours took into account a study that revealed the need, based on the high traffic on the established route, and they underwent a technical inspection before entering service, to ensure safe travel, he added.
University student Sandra Bellido Martínez told CNA that this service represents a viable alternative for workers, students, and the sick. Due to its affordable cost based on the income of Holguin families, its speed, and the comfort it provides.
Passenger Margarita González expressed that, until now, such comfortable means of transportation were not available on regular transportation. So they must be maintained so that this benefit to the population is long-lasting. Rodríguez Vázquez also added that they plan to incorporate an electronic payment option to facilitate the digitalization of services and their access to Holguin residents.
The minibuses, of Chinese origin and operated by the Holguin Taxi Agency, join the remaining 90 available in the provinces of Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Camagüey, Ciego de Ávila, and Villa Clara, to strengthen transportation in urban areas.
