The Indios of Guantanamo returned the favor to the Cachorros of Holguin by delivering one of the four sweeps that occurred in the fifth and penultimate match of the VIII National Series of U23 Baseball.
The Guantanameros, in their stadium Nguyen Van Troi, concluded this Sunday with a no-hit no-run game of 2-0 where Yudiel Guevara (1-0) struck out 11 batters to sign the tenth “no hitter” in the tournament’s history.
The loss was charged to reliever Richard Bouquet (0-1) who allowed the two runs of the game in three innings of work, after the young Luis Daniel Rodríguez pitched four innings with three hits, six strikeouts, three walks, and one hit batter.
On Saturday, the locals won 13-12 in a game where 21 walks were issued, eleven by the winners, and where left-hander Andriw Valido (0-1), the loser, was considered by many to have been excessively punished in the seventh inning.
Who got an out and gave away a free pass and allowed three consecutive hits, the last one a double. In the second Saturday game, the Indians defeated them 4-3, with a smile for Léster Castro (2-0) and a setback for reliever Jun Luis Matos (0-3), despite José Antonio Rodríguez’s home run.

In Group B, Villa Clara swept Matanzas by winning 5-2 this Sunday and became the first team with 10 victories in the championship. Cienfuegos (9-6) kept close behind in the same group after beating Mayabeque 3-2 and completing their own sweep.
In Group C, Las Tunas beat Sancti Spíritus for the third consecutive time (8-7), this time 9-3, and stood alone at the top with a record of 9-6. Camagüey (8-7) surrendered again to the Ciego de Ávila team (5-10), now 6×1, fell to a game behind the lead, tied with Sancti Spíritus.
Finally, in zone A, Havana swept the doubleheader against Pinar del Río, and both teams now share second place with a record of 8-4. Meanwhile, Isla continued its good pace with its fourth victory in five outings, defeating Artemisa (0-11) 8-5.
During Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the last series of the Sub 23 Baseball League will take place, and the Holguin team will visit Granma.
