Holguin once again relied on small ball and, supported by effective pitching. Managed to defeat Santiago de Cuba 3-2 for the second consecutive day at the Calixto Garcia stadium in the quarterfinals of the VIII National U23 Baseball Series.
The Holguin team opened the scoring in the second inning when David Fernández hit an infield single to second base. Reached second on a third baseman error following a hit by Arnaldo Fuentes, and scored on a hard hit to center field by Geosvelis Poll (2-1).
The Santiago Hornets scored their two runs in the third inning when they connected three hits, including RBIs by Raidel Sánchez (4-3, 1 2B) and Euclides Pérez (2-1).
The U23 Cubs decided the game by scoring two runs in the fifth inning, which Andrys Agüero (3-1) opened with a double to left field, and he scored on Cristian Onofre’s single to right field.
