The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) announced two new mobile data plans in the country. The first, called “Additional,” will allow the purchase of 2 GB for 1,200 pesos. While a “sectorial plan” will also be introduced offering an additional 6 GB for university students.
According to what was revealed in a meeting with the press, the additional plan can be purchased once a month and is valid for 35 days. This Additional Plan will be available starting June 20th in the purchasing options of Transfermóvil and Online Services (web and apk). When purchased, it will be added to the DATA resources that the line has and will extend its useful life cycle.
The sectorial plan for university students costs 360 pesos and will be identified in the Transfermóvil and Online Services purchase menu under the name Sectorial Plan.
“We continue to make progress in the compilation of lists and updating the ownership of the mobile service in universities. As this process is completed, each student will be notified via SMS,” explains ETECSA’s statement.
The new commercial offer took into account the criteria issued by various sectors of the population. Where the request for a plan with a lower price than that of the EXTRA Data plans prevailed.
ETECSA reiterates its commitment to seeking solutions to overcome current challenges. Working hand in hand with the people, supporting education and the construction of the Cuban digital society.
Our company is aware that there are sectors with greater consumption needs and that this Additional Plan will be insufficient for them; but under the current conditions, it is the solution that can be provided to increase the level of connectivity for our customers, the statement indicates.
According to a study by the telecommunications company, 38% of users in Cuba consume more than 8 gigs.
