International Master (IM) Ríder Díaz was the best placed Holguin player in the Open group of the Capablanca Memorial chess tournament. Which concluded this Monday in the beach resort of Varadero, Matanzas.

The other representative of Holguin who managed to win in the bye round was Yadel Alejandro Acosta over the Mexican Luis Javier Mateo. Which allowed him to reach 5.0 scratches and anchor in 51st place, and David Alejandro Calzadilla, who lost against Jerzy Jesus Perez, finished with 4.5 points in 55th place.
Moreover in the Veterans Tournament Jesus Grimal Zayas totaled 4.0 units to finish fifteenth.
The Children’s event “Looking for a Capablanca” took place on the 16th, with the participation of several holguineros. Including Anthony Stephan Rodriguez (U-12), who scored 4.0 points for 63rd place (4.0-73rd).
