Holguin people paid homage to the National Hero of Cuba, José Martí, in the framework of the 130th anniversary of his death. By placing a wreath in the park that bears his name in the city of Holguin.
With the presence of Joel Queipo Ruíz, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province, and Manuel Hernández Aguilera, Governor, there was also the awarding of the drawing and poetry contest for children. “Martí in Holguineros”, which was part of the third Day of Affection.
Afterwards, the tribute moved to the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of the Interior (Minint), where the Cuban Workers’ Central (CTC) recognized several workers with the Jesús Menéndez Distinction for their outstanding labor trajectory. Nursing supervisor Maritza Velázquez Montada was also awarded the status of “Eulogy to Virtue”.
In addition, similar ceremonies were held in various localities of Holguin, as a gesture of respect and eternal recognition to the Apostle.
At the national level, the central act for this commemoration took place this Monday in Dos Ríos, historical site where José Martí fell in combat.
Presided over by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, the ceremony entitled “I come from the Sun” gathered a representation of the Cuban people who honored the Apostle of Independence.
