Day against homophobia was reported from Holguin

The parade for gender diversity for the International Day for the Struggle against Homophobia. Led by activists and representatives of the LGBTIQ+ community, featured in the week’s headlines from Holguin.

The celebrations for the ephemeris were aimed at raising awareness on issues related to LGBTIQ+ activism and began with the placement of the flag of pride and gender diversity next to the national flag from the rooftop of the Provincial Museum of History La Periquera.

In a keynote speech, Mariela Castro Espín, director of the National Center for Sex Education (Cenesex). Pointed out that the Cuban Revolution guarantees universal coverage of rights, regardless of race or creed.

She stressed that sexuality is an inherent issue in human existence, influenced by culture. Which is why multiple components are necessary to understand these phenomena and transform mentalities.

During the day, a cultural gala was held at the Eddy Suñol Theater, with musical direction by Orestes Saavedra and artistic direction by soloist Nadiel Mejías, representing the culture of transformism of this movement through fragments of the zarzuela Cecilia Valdés. The week also saw the awarding of the Order of Affection, instituted by the Jose Marti Cultural Society in Holguin, to the Calixto Garcia’s Birthplace Museum.
