The International Master (IM) Ríder Díaz continues to demonstrate that he is the best chess player in Holguin today and with his victory, in the third round, he moved up steps in the Open group of the Capablanca in Memoriam Tournament.
Leader, overcame also IM Roxangel Obregón and with 2.5 points is placed in the 15th place. When the tiebreaker system is applied, in a group that has as leader the Cuban Grandmaster Dylan Isidro Berdayes (3.0 units).
Two other players from Holguin are participating in the “Open”: David Alejandro Calzadilla, who defeated Jose Carlos Martin (Spain) the day before to reach two points and place 42nd, and Yadel Alejandro Acosta, who lost to FIDE Master (FM) Manuel Alejandro Pomares, to be in 85th place with only one point.
In the veterans’ conglomerate, Holguin’s Jesus Grimal Zayas, after beating GM Vivian Ramon in the first game, suffered his second setback in a row, this time at the expense of Costa Rica’s Juan Leon Jimenez and with one unit he is in the fifteenth place.
Also in Varadero, the Central American event is taking place, under-20 category, and in the second round, the representative of Holguin, Patrick Randy Macfarlane bowed his king against Lorenzo Alberto Perez.
The Children’s Tournament “Looking for a Capablanca”, will take place from next 16th to 19th, and according to information from the methodologist of the discipline in the province, Roberto Alcantara, will be represented by an athlete in the U-12 years and seven in the U-16.
