How do you repay a mother for the great gift of life? You’ve probably asked yourself, and you’ll surely answer: there’s no money in the world for that! And you’re absolutely right, because that’s the greatest gift a human being can have.
But there are many ways to repay the gift a mother has given us, and that’s to be the greatest thing for her. To be an example as a man or woman, to be useful to society.
It’s painful for a mother to see her son behind bars for a crime, and yet she will be there visiting her loved one, when friends and family may turn their backs on her for that mistake made under the law.
A mother will be the only one to applaud your achievements when the envious ignore the goals you’ve achieved, becoming the first doctor in the family, the only journalist, or following the tradition of lawyers or professors in the family.
A mother’s love is the most unconditional love, because she is also unconditional toward her creation, and parenting is a titanic task for her, and she will always be with you, when others only want you out of self-interest.
A mother’s love is also healing when she caresses the area of pain when you are going through an illness, and you feel great relief. A kiss from a mother fills you with energy to succeed if you are a high-performance athlete. And there is the story of the famous Portuguese soccer player Ronaldo.
The soccer player recounted that a girlfriend he once had criticized him for always traveling with his mother on all his vacation trips, and he explained to her that he was the great athlete he is because of his mother, who gave him food when there was a shortage or bought him his first pair of soccer shoes.
But what do philosophers say about mothers?
For Erich Fromm, German psychoanalyst and philosopher, “A mother’s love is like peace. It doesn’t need to be acquired, it doesn’t need to be deserved.”
“A mother’s love is patient and forgiving when all others abandon, it never fails or falters, even when the heart is broken,” said Helen Rice, the American poet. It is sad to be born and see a mother die, in childbirth, because you would live a life without knowing the great power of her love, a power that encourages, heals, counsels, and persuades with words.
And although this Sunday is Mother’s Day, every day is truly a mother’s day, because it is a role she plays every moment of her existence, although it takes a back seat when the long-awaited child arrives. And it is then that we value our mothers most, because with the arrival of our first child, we truly understand that it is a unique and unconditional affection, due to the great power of her love.
