Holguin: Youth Networks Integrate into Scientific Development

The youth networks created by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment in the province of Holguin are part of local initiatives for the development and evaluation of scientific potential.

Yordanka Maite Hernández Osorio, an official with that agency, told the Cuban News Agency that this initiative aims to recruit. From the undergraduate level at universities, students with interests in innovation. Who can then become candidates for master’s and doctoral degrees.

She stated that these students must also have projects associated with the thematic priorities of the science-based government system. Including exportable sectors, renewable energy, and food production.

Hernández noted that young workers in the nickel and electrical sectors also participate, contributing to self-improvement activities, environmental education, and open-door events at pre-university schools.

These young scientists also explore the potential of each location to achieve territorial self-sufficiency and validate ecosystems, services, and opportunities focused on local development.

Toward this end, the board added, events, discussions, and panels on these topics are organized by the young academics themselves.

Furthermore, Holguin is working on professional training, especially in entities such as the Nickel Development and Research Center. Where the advancement of this parameter is essential for the company’s aspirations to high-tech status.
