Until April 10, a perinatal care training with territorial scope is taking place in Holguin. Based at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University General Hospital.
The field of Perinatology includes obstetricians, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, surgeons and nursing staff. In order to provide specialized care to their patients.
Hence, the development of the professional competencies of those in charge of this care is essential in the Cuban Health System. Moreover in order to improve the quality of life of patients with risks of multimorbidity and multiple pathologies.
According to Dr. Yazmina Jiménez Leyva, a first–degree specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics and Deputy Director of the provincial maternity hospital,.“As work strategies of the Maternal and Child Care Program (PAMI in the Spanish acronym) we always try to improve it through training, in order to improve the work.”
Also in this training, in addition to Holguin professionals, at the request of the province of Granma. Two specialists linked to perinatology in that territory attend, one from the municipality of Manzanillo and the other from the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes hospital, in the municipality of Bayamo, Jiménez Leyva added.
Perinatological conditions are one of the causes that contribute the greatest morbidity due to the increase in complications in pregnancy. Especially in patients with extreme ages, whether they are young or older than 35 years.
In this sense, the also Master in Comprehensive Care for Women. Pointed out that through this training an update of knowledge is provided to increase the number of specialists with better training for an adequate management of this type of patient.
As part of the perinatal care training, lectures are held on the management of hypertensive disease. And pregnancy and the behavior of pregnancy–associated infections that lead to the threat of preterm delivery, among other important topics.
In addition, seminars are offered and the diplomats rotate through the fundamental areas. Where maternal morbidity, pregnancy, and that generated in critical maternal care are addressed.
The professionals who are part of the training rotate through the Intensive Care Unit. The Perinatology Room, the Ultrasound departments and the specialties of Hematology and Cardiology. Which includes training in hemodynamics, Doppler ultrasonography and the most recurrent hepatic, renal and urological pathologies during pregnancy.
This training involves doctors from the “Lenin“ with basic notions in perinatal care. Specialists of Primary Health Care (PHC), who, incorporated into the maternity care teams, acquire a perinatological vision from the health area.
Specialists from most of the Holguin municipalities and for those who could not be there are also studying the possibility of continuing the preparation at another time to ensure that most of the specialists in the province are trained in this area, said the deputy director of the provincial maternity.
Currently, at the country level, the main perinatal conditions with the highest incidence are hypertensive disease and teenage pregnancy, the latter being of special interest and follow–up due to the complications derived from this health problem, as they are often patients with incomplete reproductive development or pre–existing diseases, with diabetes, malnutrition, with growth restriction and repeated urinary tract infections.
