The implementation of the Life Task and the control of polluting sources stand out among the results of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma in the Spanish acronym) during the year 2024 in the province of Holguin.
Geovanny Zaldívar Martínez, subdelegate of the branch, told ACN that in the period 1.8 kilometers of dunes were recovered by maintenance and rehabilitation actions on eight beaches for tourist use.
He pointed out that a program of resilient crops is also being implemented in the face of the effects of climate change, where 15 varieties of root vegetables, grains, vegetables, grasses and forages with this type of phenotypic characteristics are already being developed.
Likewise, 189 hectares benefited with efficient irrigation systems in the municipality of Gibara, through a pipeline in the Arroyo Seco productive pole of that town, he said.
In environmental management, he also highlighted the control of polluting sources, of which 89 percent are at some stage of the investment process for the mitigation of ecological damage.
This information was revealed at the Balance Assembly of the sector, held at the Expo Holguin Fairgrounds, where the search for new financing options for projects, the use of the government budget for local development and the links of the sector with tourism, culture and health were also analyzed.
The meeting was attended by Rudy Montero Mata, deputy minister of Citma, Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province, among other authorities.
