Medical Sciences Branch prepares for career accreditation

The Medical Sciences Branch of Holguin Comandante Arides Estévez Sánchez has an important challenge in the current school year, the accreditation of the syllabus of the Nursing and Clinical Bioanalysis major. Although this purpose is scheduled from June 30 to July 4 of this year, it implies an extensive process of organization and prior preparation in advance, with a view to the external evaluation.

According to Dr. Rosell Damián Dorrego Anzardo, director of this academic institution, “In 2025 we have an important challenge, given by the accreditation of the study programs of two of our most complex careers, which, due to their importance and what they contribute to patient care, directly affect professional training.”

“For several years we have been preparing for this moment by writing the self-assessment report for each career. It includes the impact achieved at a social level, the faculty, the curriculum of the degree and everything that it contributes from the economic and social to the development of the territory, as well as its impact at the community level and in the care centers where our graduates work,” exemplifies the academic.

At the provincial level, Nursing is with more than 760 students enrolled, as part of the undergraduate careers in health sciences, along with Medicine and Stomatology, one of the three programs with the highest enrollment, and the only one to be accredited of the aforementioned.

For its part, Clinical Bioanalysis, with more than 520 students, is also one of the largest within health technologies, which translates into an arduous and complex process that, according to the specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine, implies that both the teaching and service staff are immersed and work together in the territory for this process, as it will be an important achievement that the subsidiary will have this year. Hence, the faculty works intentionally on the curricula and the students on their preparation for the integrative exams, in the search for categories of excellence.

The credit evaluates the quality of the training of professionals and includes, along with the headquarters in the Holguin subsidiary, those of Moa, Mayarí and Banes. In correspondence with resolution 160, of January 1, 2025, work is being done on the dimensions under analysis by the experts of the National Accreditation Board, determined by the comprehensive relevance, faculty and support staff for teaching, students, infrastructure, curriculum and economic and social impact.

Attached to the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin, this subsidiary currently offers eight bachelor’s degrees, 14 short-cycle programs and professional technical education and intermediate technicians in Nursing, Anesthesia and Surveillance and Vector Control.
