Holguin opens 47th Provincial Baseball Series 

Five sweeps in the seven sub-series and two no hit no run games tinged the opening day of the XLVII Provincial Baseball Series in Holguin.

The inauguration ceremony of the event took place at Jesús Feliú Leiva stadium in the provincial capital where the Sultanes of Holguin, defending champions, defeated twice, defeated the visiting Mambises de Cacocum twice.

In the first game, a golden hit by rookie Israel Torres, as a changeover, served to beat Cacocum team 3×2 with Jesús Quintán winning and

Luis Cáser, boh relievers, after effective starts by local José Antonio Sánchez (4.0 innings) and Arley Espinosa (4.0 innings), who left the game tied at one run.

The second victory for the Sultanes was by a comfortable score of 9×2

in a game in which Michael Álvarez drove in three runs with a homerun and Juan Manuel Rivas pitching the nine innings.

The Alegres of Mayarí, as visitors at Rogelio Herrera stadium in Cayo Mambí, beat twice the Leones of Frank País by the mercy rule, first 13×1 with Wilson Paredes in the hill, who left the local team in two hits, while his teammates supported him with 15 hits, including homers by Jorge Luis Peña, Robin Serrano, Luis Gustavo Castañón and Luis Lawrence.

Mayaris second win (14×0) came with Yusmel Velázquez in the mound (no hits and no runs), while the winning batters produced 14 hits, including homers by Peña and Serrano, respectively.

The current provincial runners-up Cafetaleros of Sagua of

Tánamo, sat José Abreu Park, defeated the Mineros de Moa twice.

In the first match 3×0 with with José Miguel Rodriguez winning (no hit no run), and then 5×4 with Yuliannis Proenza winning and Wilser González saving. Yeral Sanamé lost both games.

The Ferroviarios of Cueto, visitors at Remigio Marrero in Antilla, completed the third sweep of the day:  8×4 and 11×2, over the local squad of Tiburones, with the respective victories for Ramiro Francis García and Vladimir Chade.

The two divisions of honors were registered in the West, at “Jorge Martín Magariño” ballpark of Gibara, the Colosos of Urbano Noris won 2×0 in the first

match, with a smile for left-hander Álvaro Cobas and a save for Víctor Ramos; then the Piratas of Gibara won 5×4, with Liusdán Concepción grabbing the win.

Lastly, at the ballpark of Pedro Díaz Coello sports school, the Vaqueros of Calixto García won the first game, 6×4, led by Guillermo Bertolí, 6×2; but then, the Cachorritos Juveniles reacted and won 1×0 with Richard Bouquet wining and Alaín Torres saving.

The second day of the XLVII Provincial Baseball Series will be this Sunday 29th, also with double games of seven innings starting at 10:00 a.m.
