Representatives of the Venceremos Brigade of Solidarity with Cuba arrived this Saturday from the United States to the city of Holguin, in order to know closely the reality of the people and in support of the Revolution.
The 99 brigade members coming from 20 states of the northern nation will contact communities, visit historical centers and carry out volunteer work, on the 55th anniversary of the creation of this solidarity group.
Authorities of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Government of the province, and of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP for its Spanish acronym) welcomed the participants.
Holguin ICAP welcomed the brigadistas at the Frank País International, reported the National Television news show, of CubaVision channel.
The Venceremos brigade will first travel to the province of Guantánamo province, where it will begin its tour of the eastern region, in order to to strengthen the ties between the peoples of Cuba and the US.
According to the activists, mostly young people, it will be an opportunity to express their rejection of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the U.S. on Cuba, for more than six decades, and to learn firsthand on the impact of this criminal policy on Cuban families and the nation.
In 1969, when Cuba was defying the empire and attempting to make the largest sugarcane harvest in its history, a group of young American – some of them solidary, others curious and adventurous, decided to travel to where they were forbidden, Cuba.
