The restoration of Fernando VII Battery, foundational site of the coastal city of Gibara, in the province of Holguin, stands out among the works with which that territory will celebrate the National Rebellion Day.
The renovations include the correction of the chipping of the walls, the exterior and roof painting, the replacement of lamps, the perimeter fence, the replacement of broken tiles, the lighting of the stage, among other maintenance works, said Nelson Velázquez Céspedes, administrator of the establishment, to ACN.
The site, conceived as a snack bar for fast food offers, will also be distinguished by a pergola in the center with modern lighting, which will add a new attraction to the facility, he pointed out.
Andrés Ricardo Rivas, president of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power, indicated that the institution will be managed by the Palmares chain and will recover its vitality in the so-called Villa Blanca de los Cangrejos.
He pointed out that after its inauguration, scheduled during the July 26th celebrations, it will offer typical dishes based on fish and seafood native to the maritime platform of the territory, he said.
Likewise, based on the production chain with state entities and new economic actors, the presence of jaibita crabs, crabs, shrimp and oysters, as well as cojinua fish and mackerel, whose capture is authorized and that at certain times of the year run along the northern coast of the country, will be guaranteed.
Also in the square next to the fortification will be developed a project dedicated to show to the visitors the typical dances of Gibara and other representations of the traditional culture of the locality, he pointed out.
The Fernando VII Battery, located in Punta de Yarey, was built in 1817 to protect its inhabitants from attacks by corsairs and pirates, and the laying of its first stone, on January 16 of that same year, is taken as the constitutional date of the town, declared as a tourist destination during the International Tourism Fair Fitcuba 2017.

This fortification underwent successive repairs until the early 21st century and is currently one of the essential attractions for national and foreign visitors in this coastal settlement permanent venue of the Gibara International Film Festival.
