Special Education in Holguin bets on inclusive projects

Special Education in Holguin bets for projects that favor learning and allow the proactive insertion in society of children with intellectual, sensorial and physical-motor disabilities.

As part of the Third Improvement of Education and with the support of families and the community, the province has multiplied the programs that promote social inclusion, the self-validism of the students, the continuity of studies and the entry into working life, according to Yamila Torres Suárez, methodologist of the Special Education Department of the General Directorate of the sector.

According to the peculiarities of each student, the contents are adapted and they are incorporated to groups of interest with varied topics such as vocational training, care for the environment and the beautification of the cities, for which they have the support of various organizations, she said.

The directive commented that in the municipalities of Gibara, Rafael Freyre and Banes they work together with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in the cleaning of the coasts and have joined initiatives such as the ECOARTE program, of Moa, which promotes artistic manifestations in terms of environmental protection.

Other collaborating socio-educational institutions are the Museum of Natural Sciences Carlos de la Torre y Huerta of the head municipality, which maintains a close link with the Special School “Le Thi Rieng”, the Provincial Center of Culture Houses and the University of Holguin, with which they have agreements for the improvement of their professionals, he explained.

Torres Suárez added that such activities stimulate the cognitive development of the students and in some cases allow their incorporation to regular education or, from the fourth cycle, the entrance as workers in any economic form, either state or private.

Special Education in Holguín attends to more than three thousand children in 26 educational centers, of which about one thousand are in a situation of inclusion, to whom a differentiated treatment is provided in order to achieve the well-being and harmony that each one deserves.
