The United States blockade against Cuba is currently limiting care for high-risk pregnant women at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin Hospital. Due to a shortage of essential supplies and medications for obstetrics.
The deputy director of the hospital’s maternal and child health department, Rubén Reynaldo Rojas. He explained that the hostile policy prevents access to spare parts and equipment for patients with complications.
According to Rojas, the availability of antibiotics and steroids is very limited. As are surgical supplies such as sutures. Rojas denounced delays in the arrival of medical oxygen. And the pressure on foreign donors interested in building a new maternity ward.
Despite the shortages, the medical and nursing staff remain committed to providing quality services through constant innovation.
Helen González, a patient with gestational hypertension, highlighted the medical support and efforts to ensure a diagnosis for every pregnant woman at the country’s largest maternity hospital.
