The boiler area at the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE) is being cooled down before access can be granted to effectively assess. The puncture that caused the plant to shut down from the national electric power system (SEN) at 3:00 a.m. this morning.
Román Pérez Castañeda, general manager of the plant, recognized as the largest and most efficient unit of its kind in the country. Explained to the Cuban News Agency that the plant was generating 170 megawatts (MW) at the time of the shutdown.
The cooling process is estimated to take between 30 and 36 hours. Afterward, it will be possible to access the boiler. Accurately assess the extent of the damage, and take the necessary actions. Pérez Castañeda stated in a telephone interview.

Demonstrating a constant commitment to overcoming the impact of the United States blockade against Cuba. Which hinders the acquisition of resources for maintenance and repairs.
Regarding the current state of the National Electric System (SEN), the Cuban Electric Union reported the following main incidents on Monday:
Outages: Unit 2 of the Felton Thermoelectric Power Plant, Unit 1 of the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant. Unit 5 of the Antonio Maceo Thermoelectric Power Plant, and Unit 6 of the Diez de Octubre Thermoelectric Power Plant.
Maintenance: Units 5 and 6 of the Mariel Thermoelectric Power Plant, Units 3 and 6 of the Renté Thermoelectric Power Plant. And Unit 5 of the Nuevitas Thermoelectric Power Plant.
Limitations in thermal generation: 266 MW out of service.
Peak Hour Forecast
The forecast calls for the commissioning of Unit 6 of the Nuevitas Power Plant (CTE Nuevitas). With 85 MW and Unit 5 of the Energas Jaruco Power Plant (SEN) with 20 MW during peak demand hours.
With this forecast, the peak availability is 1205 MW, with a maximum demand of 3020 MW. Resulting in a deficit of 1815 MW. Therefore, if the anticipated conditions persist, an outage of 1845 MW is expected during this period.
