Russia maintains contact with Cuban leaders and is prepared to provide all possible assistance to the Caribbean nation. Which is experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis due to the suffocating US blockade, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated today.
“We maintain working and expert-level contacts with the Cuban government. We maintain contact with our Cuban friends,” Peskov affirmed this Tuesday during his regular press briefing.
The spokesman also noted that “Cuba is an independent and sovereign nation facing great economic hardship. Due to a suffocating economic, commercial, and financial blockade” imposed by the United States.
“There are significant humanitarian problems in that country, so in Russia we are ready to provide all possible assistance, of course. We are working on all these issues with our Cuban counterparts,” Peskov added.
On January 29th, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order declaring a national emergency. Due to an alleged Cuban threat to US national security and imposing an oil embargo on the island.
The Cuban government asserts that with this “energy blockade,” Washington intends to strangle the Caribbean nation’s economy and make living conditions unbearable for its people.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel declared last Friday that the country has gone three months without receiving oil from abroad. Which has worsened the existing energy crisis. With prolonged blackouts and recurring collapses of the national power grid.
