The exhibition “A Chair Exhibits,” inaugurated at the Holguin Provincial Center of Visual Arts (CPAP). It showcases the legacy of generations of Holguin artists. With a compilation of works created during their time at the El Alba Regional Academy of Visual Arts.
The retrospective exhibition, open to the public as part of the celebration of the CPAP’s 35th anniversary. It comprises a series of illustrations created during the Academy’s teaching processes. Professor José Aguilar, head of the institution’s Drawing Department, served as curator. With Bertha Beltrán as curator and Ronald Guillén as designer.
In his remarks for the catalog, Guillén emphasized the importance of celebrating drawing. As an autonomous medium of expression in contemporary art. One that challenges traditional conventions and expands the creative boundaries of materiality and support.
He further explained that Cuba boasts great figures like Roberto Fabelo, whose work reflects on existence and memory. That in Holguin, the figures of Cosme Proenza and Rafael Campaña. Also who forged their own dialogue and understanding of artistic creation, have endured since the 1980s.
The specialist classified the exhibitions as a range of processes converging at the Academy of Arts. Whose drawing program was recognized nationally and transcended the island’s borders. With contributions from artists such as Miguel Mayán, Argelio Cobiellas, Lauro Hechavarría, and Fernando Bacallao, among others.
Inaugurated in the 1960s in the city of Holguin, the El Alba Regional Academy of Visual Arts continues to play a vital role in the training of young artists. In the eastern region of the country and in the cultural life of the province.
