Holguin Electric Company Announces New Power Supply Rotation

Faced with the partial disconnection of the National Electric System (SEN). Also which has left the province with only 70 MW available out of a demand of 225 MW. The Holguin Electric Company has announced a new power supply rotation model.

This model prioritizes the most affected circuits and eliminates scheduled outages. The measure was explained in a press conference by the general director, Rubert Reynaldo. Who stated that the goal is to guarantee at least three hours of service on a rotating basis among 124 circuits. Amidst an extreme emergency that has left some areas without electricity for more than 40 hours.

Also the company also announced that it will modify the information published on Telegram, now showing the circuits with electricity service instead of those affected. This decision aims to provide clearer and more effective communication to the public regarding the status of the power supply.

The current situation stems from a complex national context. Reynaldo explained that the disconnection of the National Electric System (SEN) from Camagüey to Pinar del Rio. Which occurred last Wednesday due to a breakdown at the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant. It has left the eastern system operating in isolation with minimal generation.

Adding to this crisis is the critical fuel situation. “We are waiting for a fuel supply that hasn’t materialized,” Reynaldo stated.

“The Gulf War and the embargo are still there; the fuel isn’t here. Cuba is making extraordinary efforts. We are practically using fuel from our own crude oil, which is heavier, and that has consequences.”

The executive warned that this situation could persist for several days. However, the addition of units such as the Diez de Octubre and Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plants is expected over the weekend. Which could represent an improvement in the energy situation.
