Lowering the temperature of this facility is the necessary step before locating and repairing its recent malfunction. Which is negatively impacting the National Energy System (SEN).

“The natural cooling process should take between 36 and 40 hours,” stated Elmer García, the CTE’s Maintenance Director. He indicated that, in parallel, reconnaissance activities will be carried out in other areas. Until it is possible to enter and identify the fault.

For his part, the unit’s director, Rubén Campos, estimated that approximately 72 hours will be needed for a possible restoration of service. Since access to the boiler has not yet been possible, the engineer believes that a high-temperature combustion residue leak from its lower section may have damaged some piping.

“When that residue came into contact with the concrete beneath the boiler, the concern was understandable, because it came out incandescent, but our fire suppression system and the prompt response of the fire department prevented any major accidents,” the expert explained.

On Thursday, Mario Sabines, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the western province of Matanzas. Visited the Guiteras Power Plant (CTE) accompanied by Governor Mariela Poey to learn about the actions being taken to resolve the breakdown.

He suggested making the most of every minute to optimize the work and get the Guiteras plant back online as soon as possible. Provided the necessary conditions are met. The governor reaffirmed his unconditional support for the CTE workers.
