Cuba’s Foreign Ministry Defends Sovereign Right to Economic and Trade Relations

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez defended on Monday his country’s right to develop international economic and trade relations. Without interference from any government or nation, no matter how powerful.

On his social media account, Rodríguez made it clear that “as a sovereign country. #Cuba has the willingness and the capacity to develop economic and trade relations with any nation.”

The head of Cuban diplomacy also argued that “this is how international trade should develop.” While also dispelling doubts in a clear allusion to the measures against his country from the White House. Stating that “the government of a powerful nation should not have the prerogative. Or the capacity to dictate how and with which nations another state can develop its foreign trade.”

Also the United States has maintained an economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba for more than six decades. Along with a series of sanctions, restrictions, and a web of laws. Designed to pressure and punish those who establish any economic, commercial, or financial ties with the Caribbean nation.

This policy of harassment, aimed at strangling the Cuban people and provoking change in the country. It has intensified to unprecedented levels under the current U.S. administration.
