Verso Amigo: A Refuge for Memory and Young Talent in Holguin

On an afternoon that blended historical memory with the fresh energy of artistic creation. The “Verso Amigo” space of the José Martí Cultural Society (SCJM) in the city of Holguin. Once again demonstrated that culture is an unbreakable generational bridge. The event, held at the usual venue of the Center for Cultural Development, became a tribute to the most human aspects of the Apostle.

This was confirmed to the press by Master of Science Héctor Miguel Niles Ávalos, president of the Holguin branch of the SCJM. Niles highlighted the atmosphere created at the gathering. “The ‘Verso Amigo’ space allowed us to reflect on Martí, but also on the women he honored with his love,” he expressed. Emphasizing the most intimate and sensitive side of the Cuban National Hero.

Music took center stage with a performance by young guitarists from the workshop. Also who played their own compositions, demonstrating the enduring appeal of trova and singer-songwriter music among new generations. This dialogue between experience and youth is one of the project’s defining characteristics. Indeed, this space has become a vital intergenerational meeting point.

“Verso Amigo” thus reaffirms its commitment not only to promoting Martí’s thought—whether through music, visual arts, or poetry. Also to building a community around the values Martí championed. A community that, as demonstrated, continues to find its natural home in the SCJM of Holguin. A place to keep creating and dreaming.
