Tobacco Production Changes Energy Matrix in Holguin

The Jesús Feliú Leyva factory in Holguin is implementing a change in its energy matrix. At its production facility by installing photovoltaic systems. That support tobacco production capacity for export.

José Alberto Osorio Leyva, an industry specialist, told the Cuban News Agency that adopting these measures guarantees the entity’s autonomy. From the National Electric System (SEN) and reduces the consumption of fossil fuels.

He reported that since the system’s implementation, strategies are being develop. To increase power and expand the number of panels in order to extend service to areas with higher energy demands. Essential for tobacco processing and quality.

As part of these actions, the specialist noted that the manufacturing process is prioritized. Given that this factory is the largest in the province. Office work is also being limited to essential hours. So high-consumption equipment is being phased out.

These conditions are achieving electrical sustainability at the factory. One of the largest of its kind in the country, and thereby increasing exports of this product. Through uninterrupted production throughout the workday, Osorio Leyva emphasized.

Also the facility produces loose tobacco for the domestic market and for Habanos S.A.. A Havana-based company that markets them worldwide under various brands using Cuban-sourced raw materials.

Belonging to the Tobacco Collection, Processing, and Rolling Company. The factory is strengthening its production by utilizing renewable energy sources. As part of the national program for clean energy and electrical sustainability with its own resources. This ensures continuous work processes and guarantees exports in the tobacco agro-industry.
