Although today is Valentine’s Day in many countries around the world. It’s worth remembering that every day is truly a day for love, because it’s present in every second of our existence.
We are born for love and we are capable of dying for love. Perhaps that’s why the Greek writer Euripides said, “The greatest pleasure in life is love.”
And today, as its day is marked on the calendar. It’s worth remembering what Plato said: “In the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet.”
Love is also healing when a mother caresses her sick child and transmits positive energy for their speedy recovery. Alleviating their pain and illness, and perhaps that’s why the Greek philosopher Socrates argued. “One word frees us from all the weight and pain in life. That word is love.”
Sometimes we walk down the street and see couples who aren’t particularly attractive. We agree with the African-Roman theologian Saint Augustine when he declared: “Love is the beauty of the soul.”
When we visit a hospital and see patients diagnosed with a terminal illness, and yet time passes and the prognosis for their life expectancy is wrong. So we remember what the Hindu leader Mahatma Gandhi said: “Where there is love, there is life.”
When we let ourselves be carried away by love. Sometimes we do crazy things, crazy things that lead us, later on, to regret. Regarding these crazy things, the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche commented: “There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness.”
Some people put a price on love when, in reality, “the love we give away is the only love we keep.” As the American writer and philosopher Elbert Hubbard so aptly put it. “Two hearts in love need no words,” wrote the French poet Marceline Desbordes-Vamore. It happens when we meet the right person. Always at the least expected moment.
The exchange of smiles, glances, and small physical touches begins. So magic blossoms to demonstrate that the connection exists without words.
When mere mortals speak of love, words often fail. So this Valentine’s Day, remember that we love every second, every minute, every hour, every day, every night of our existence because, quite simply, love is the fuel of our lives.
