Aid Arrives in Cuba from Mexico

A shipment of over 800 tons of aid arrived today in Havana aboard two Mexican Navy ships. The aid was sent by the Mexican government at the instruction of President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Upon receiving the shipment, Betsy Díaz Velázquez, Minister of Domestic Trade, thanked President Sheinbaum, her government, the Mexican people. And the institutions that made it possible for this aid to reach the Cuban people.

The Minister specified that the aid consists of food, hygiene products, and other supplies. Also that will be greatly appreciated by the Cuban people.

She highlighted the participation of the Mexican Navy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Mexican Embassy, the Office of the President, and all the Mexican institutions that facilitated the shipment.

“At a time when we are overcoming difficulties, when the measures imposed by the United States government are intensifying and the attempt to suffocate us is becoming more acute. This support is all the more appreciated,” stated Díaz Velázquez.

She added that Cubans feel supported by Mexico, by its humanity, solidarity, and brotherhood. According to the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ship Papaloapan would transport approximately 536 tons of goods. Including liquid milk, meat products, cookies, beans, rice, tuna in water, sardines, and vegetable oil. As well as personal hygiene items.

Meanwhile, the second ship, named Isla Holbox, would bring some 277 tons of powdered milk to Cuba.

On January 29th, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order. Declaring a national emergency and establishing a process for imposing tariffs on goods from countries that supply crude oil to Cuba.

Diverse voices in Mexico and around the world, from parliamentarians to social organizations and political parties, have spoken out in support of the Caribbean nation in the face of the United States’ energy blockade. In which they have described as unjust, cruel, and anachronistic.
