University of Medical Sciences in Holguin Adjusts Academic Year

The University of Medical Sciences in Holguin is making modifications to its academic programs. To continue the training of physicians during the exceptional situation Cuba is facing and to strengthen priority programs in the sector.

George Augusto Velázquez Zúñiga, rector of the university, informed the Cuban News Agency that the next semester will begin on February 16th in the municipalities where students reside. Through university centers designated for this purpose.

He indicated that the teaching and learning process will continue through the network of hospitals, polyclinics, and family doctor and nurse offices, taking into account the academic year.

These activities will be complemented by specialized, optional, or elective courses related to the Maternal and Child Health Program. Also where the vitality of basic services will be prioritized, adapted to academic requirements. The rector specified that the week of February 9-14th will be dedicated to making up for missed exams. Emphasized the importance of staying informed through official channels. And maintaining constant communication with the deans and lead professors of each program.

As part of the exceptional measures, the Health sector in Holguin is also adjusting services for priority areas such as hemodialysis. So where all patients are being admitted to healthcare facilities.

The province has multidisciplinary teams for monitoring infants and vulnerable groups. Guarantees transportation to hospitals or maternity homes for pregnant women with chronic gestational illnesses. Or those residing in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
