Holguin Commemorates Founding of the Cuban News Agency

A gathering of generations commemorated the founding of the Cuban News Agency (CNA) bureau in Holguin. As part of the campaign for the 50th anniversary of this office, established on January 3rd, 1977.

Edda Diz Garcés, founder of CNA in the province, recalled the initial transmissions using teletype technology. Identified the first cable sent about the passage of the Caravan of Freedom as the founding momento. After which the main events in the region were reported continuously.

She emphasized the experiences in training students and recent graduates. Stressed the comprehensive skills and expertise of news agency reporters.
Diz Garcés shared her five decades of professional experience with the staff and the importance of resuming the teaching of history and strengthening ties between universities and the press.

For his part, Alfredo Carralero, who retired in 2023, highlighted the role of the Cuban News Agency in training professionals. Emphasizing the comprehensive nature and rigor of daily work.

He shared anecdotes with the new generation of reporters about his work. Covering topics related to sugar production, the local economy, and public affairs, which were very well received by the public.

Juan Pablo Carreras, chief correspondent, spoke at the meeting about the impact of the staff in covering national and provincial events. The credibility of each news report, and the strategies for improving quality.

Among the activities planned for the 50th anniversary of the CNA in Holguin throughout the year are talks. Special publications on social media, tributes to retirees and founders.  In events such as Holguin Culture Week whose 43rd edition is dedicated to commemorating the anniversary.
