The first few weeks of 2026 have laid bare, with singular starkness, the classic and renewed mechanisms of US imperialism. In just a few weeks, the Donald Trump administration has executed a script that combines blatant military aggression with opacity and domestic manipulation. Confirming that its policy is a coherent whole aimed at domination and the evasion of all accountability.
The kidnapping, through a disguised military operation, of the constitutional president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro. It constitutes an act of war and an international crime. It is not an isolated event, but rather the spearhead of a doctrine that shamelessly proclaims that “the Western Hemisphere is ours,” threatens Iran, and revives colonial ambitions of acquiring territories.
For Cuba, this escalation is the tangible confirmation of a permanent threat. The genocidal blockade, the main pillar of this aggression for more than six decades. It is now complemented by actions of brute force against sister nations. Our solidarity with Venezuela is, therefore, an act of legitimate self-defense and principle against an enemy that will not stop.
At the same time, the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files scandal reveals the other side of the same coin. The profound immorality and hypocrisy of that power elite. The controlled, censored, and belated release of documents ordered by the Trump Justice Department has attempted, unsuccessfully. Also to bury extremely serious accusations linking the president himself to sex trafficking networks. Testimonies in the files point to trips on the “Lolita Express,” the recruitment of victims at his Mar-a-Lago estate, and allegations of sexual assault.
Moreover the White House strategy has been threefold: deny, discredit, and, above all, distract. By labeling the case a “mere distraction” and launching military offensives abroad, Trump seeks to create a wartime smokescreen to stifle the scandals that are eroding his moral authority. The connection is functional and evident: a false image of strength is projected internationally while the most opaque secrecy is exercised to protect the powerful domestically.
For Cuba, this analysis is not theoretical. It is the confirmation of the “unchanged” essence of imperialism, which only intensifies its methods.
The lesson is clear: external aggression against Venezuela and the media disinformation campaigns surrounding the Epstein case are two tools from the same handbook for controlling the news cycle. Weakening sovereign nations, and evading internal scrutiny.
It is true that the United States’ double standards are systemic, and the sovereignty of nations is violated while the impunity of predatory elites is protected.
Faced with this multidimensional offensive, the Cuban Revolution’s response must be, and is, the same as always. Unwavering unity, ideological firmness, and active international solidarity. We will not be deceived by the smokescreens. Denouncing the hypocrisy of the Trump administration and its pattern of aggression is a journalistic duty and an act of defending the truth and all peoples who struggle for their sovereignty.
History has taught us to recognize the enemy. Today, more alert than ever, Cuba remains steadfast in its struggle.
