The quarterfinals and semifinals of the 64th Cuban National Baseball Series will return to the originally approved format of seven games, best-of-four.
The Cuban Baseball Federation, in its press release, explains that given Cuba’s absence from the Caribbean Series. And the fact that the date for the Americas Series is still to be determined. It has decided to reinstate the originally approved format for the quarterfinals and semifinals: seven games, best-of-four.
Also the schedule designed for the entire postseason anticipates that the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals will begin on the third day. After the last game of the previous stage concludes.
For each phase of the postseason, the format will be: two days of games starting at the home stadium of the teams that finished in the top four. One day for travel, three days of games at the other stadium. One day for travel, and, if necessary, two games at the stadiums where the playoffs began.
If any segment of the Playoffs ends up coinciding with an event or the start of international preparations for the World Baseball Classic. Moreover the players involved will not attend or will join later, as the case may be.
The quarterfinal matchups are already set: Holguin Cubs vs. Artemisa Hunters. Matanzas Crocodiles vs. Sancti Spiritus Roosters. Mayabeque Hurricanes vs. Industriales Lions.
Finally the defending champions, Las Tunas Lumberjacks, who finished first in the qualifying round, await their quarterfinal opponents. Which would be either Pinar del Rio Vegueros. Currently in eighth place with a 40-25 record, or Villa Clara Leopards (36-35). If they win their four remaining games: three against Camagüey and one against Ciego de Avila.
