The Pictorial World of the Gelpi Brothers

The pictorial world of brothers Enrique and Alfredo Díaz-Gelpi is promising within the Holguin art scene. It has transcended Cuba’s cultural borders throughout their careers as artists.

Enrique has painted beautiful canvases titled “Prisoner,” “Memories,” “Supplication,” “Ecstasy,” “Temptation,” and “Escape.” Where he has unleashed an overflowing imagination that blends seamlessly with his palette. Selecting the most appropriate colors for the themes he explores. He always considers woman a muse who inspires him and brings forth his creations.

Alfredo, on the other hand, has presented his works in various exhibitions under the titles “The Sleeping Demon,” “Siege,” “Meditation,” “Inner Conflict,” “Blessed,” and “Convention of Dreams.” In these works, the viewer can also appreciate a beauty captured with great care and intelligence. Natural gifts that, combined with his talent, have made him one of the most promising visual artists in the “most beautiful land.”

Also the paintings of these brothers are characterized by a greater use of warm colors to convey the psychological themes explored by the artists. Giving their pictorial creations a unique family and artistic style within the Holguin art world. This achievement has allowed their works to be exhibited in Argentina, Puerto Rico, Spain, Mexico, and the United States.

Their exhibitions have reflected themes related to dreams, women, daily life, meditation, and love. They are true lovers of feminine beauty, and this is reflected in their work. But beyond the theme of women, the Gelpi brothers explore in their compositions the themes of nature mixed with a surreal eroticism. Related to the beauty of the Eves that populate the island and their minds.

Moreover  the Gelpi family has been included in major group exhibitions in Rome and Buenos Aires, and has participated as guest artists in exhibitions by colleagues at ExpoCuba and ExpoArte in Havana. The Holguin Provincial Art Center and the Tele-Cristal Gallery. Among other important cultural institutions, have hosted more than 50 solo, guest, and group exhibitions.

From the depths of these creators have sprung sublime works, rich in concepts that invite reflection. Achieving a connection with these artists who are true masters of color and the figuration of lines and figures. Their work transcends the spiritual richness of humankind. Born from the most absolute spontaneous creation, far removed from commercial sketches. Focused on the most intimate experiences.

Finally their mastery of touch, both in selecting and applying colors on the palette, has long allowed Enrique and his brother Alfredo. To achieve a promising professional future in their still-young careers in the visual arts, not only in Cuba but also internationally.
