The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, addressed the American people. “I speak to the people of the United States. The people of Venezuela did not deserve this vile, warmongering aggression from a nuclear power,” she emphasized.
“It has become a stain on our relations and on our history,” she declared. Referring to the military aggression by Washington and the kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro along with his wife, Cilia Flores.
Rodríguez advocated for Bolivarian diplomacy to be the one to offer lessons in peace. “Let it be our Bolivarian diplomacy and the lessons left by our Liberator Father. Hero of this homeland, hero of the greater homeland, who left doctrines on human rights. Who left universal lessons and legacies in the humanitarian law of war. Also who left military doctrine for our liberating army,” she expressed.
The acting president recalled that Simón Bolívar never taught the people to be warmongers or to use supremacy to humiliate anyone.
In statements to the press, at the public event this Thursday, January 8th, honoring Venezuelan and Cuban soldiers. Who lost their lives during the aggression perpetrated by the United States against Venezuelan territory last Saturday, January 3rd. She asserted that “no one surrendered” and that the military operation carried out by Washington against the capital and the neighboring states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira was met with resistance.
She also reiterated her commitment and loyalty to President Nicolás Maduro, who remains detained in New York. He faces drug trafficking charges, and to the First Lady, Deputy Cilia Flores.
“We have commitment and loyalty to President Nicolás Maduro, who has been kidnapped. We have loyalty to the First Lady, Representative Cilia Flores, and we have pledged not to rest until we see them free, back home, and back in their homeland,” she said.
Rodríguez invoked the military doctrine of the Father of the Nation, Simón Bolívar. Emphasizing that the Venezuelan Army has been trained for defense, not for war. “Bolívar never taught the use of supremacy to humiliate anyone. There was always respect for the dignity of the adversary,” she stated.
Moreover she also maintained that “Venezuela will not act out of hatred. This is not revenge, it is vindication. We will give lessons in international diplomacy.” Recalling the Bolivarian maxim that “freedom is the only objective worthy of the sacrifice of humankind.”
In this context, she affirmed that the country will continue to be an “example of dignity before the world.” Keeping “its head held high and its spirit unyielding” in the face of any attempt at external subordination.
Aggression Against Venezuela and the Kidnapping of Maduro
- On Saturday, the U.S. launched a massive military aggression on Venezuelan territory. The operation concluded with the kidnapping of Maduro and Flores, who were taken to New York.
- Caracas described Washington’s actions as a “very serious military aggression.” And warned that the objective of the attacks “is none other than to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources. Particularly its oil and minerals, attempting to forcibly break the nation’s political independence.”
