Revolutionary Solidarity and Unconventional Warfare on Social Media

The confirmation that 32 compatriots—military personnel and members of the Ministry of the Interior—fell in the line of duty in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has plunged the Cuban nation into profound and legitimate grief.

This sacrifice, recognized and honored by the Venezuelan government as an act of “fulfillment of duty.” Within the framework of cooperation between sovereign states, compels a calm reflection on the fierce campaign of disinformation and hatred and the unconventional warfare waged on social media that seeks to tarnish their honor.

Also the facts are clear and have been presented by the highest authorities of Cuba and Venezuela. The Cuban combatants were in Venezuelan territory carrying out institutional protection and defense tasks. At the express request of their counterparts in that sister nation. Their mission was part of the cooperation agreements between two sovereign nations. Exercising their legitimate right to mutual assistance. The narrative that attempts to portray this collaboration as interference completely ignores the will of the Venezuelan state and the legal framework of the bilateral relationship.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez has been emphatic in honoring these “brave combatants,” who fell confronting what he has defined as direct imperial aggression. Their deaths were not in vain, as they occurred while protecting lives under their care. Acting with the professionalism and honor that characterize Cuban institutions. Declaring two days of National Mourning is an act of sovereign recognition of citizens who died serving the principles of the Revolution beyond our borders.

A machine of hate, an organized political operation.

Parallel to the mourning, a wave of offensive, dehumanizing, and hateful comments toward the fallen and their families has been unleashed on digital platforms. This phenomenon is neither spontaneous nor does it arise from the sentiments of the Cuban people. As denounced by Political Bureau member and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, this is an organized political operation.

An analysis of digital mapping reveals that the accounts leading these campaigns operate primarily from the United States and other centers of power, not from Cuba. Their objective is to manufacture consensus to justify interference and the economic blockade against the island. The operation followed a predefined script.

Moreover these campaigns adhere to a well-known pattern of cognitive warfare. Using advanced technology and a relentless media offensive to influence perceptions and sow division. The language employed seeks to strip the fallen of their human and revolutionary dignity, reducing them to political targets.

This strategy is identical to that used against Venezuela, where it has been documented how hatred is digitally incubate from abroad and then materializes into physical violence by local operatives. Generating terror among the population. The attack on Cuba and its internationalist collaborators is another front in this same unconventional war.

Faced with this avalanche of disinformation and hate, it is crucial to remember the legal and ethical framework that our society upholds. The Constitution of the Republic enshrines the right to honor and personal identity for all. Hate speech, regardless of its origin, is unconstitutional.

Our legal norms, such as Decree-Law 370, penalize the dissemination of information contrary to the integrity of individuals through data networks. Revolutionary journalism has the duty to counter these lies with rigorous truth and solid arguments. Always respecting differing opinions but without yielding to ideological subversion.

The 32 Cubans who died in Venezuela are heroes who fulfilled their duty of international solidarity. Their deaths are a direct consequence of the aggressive foreign policy of a government that seeks to dominate sovereign nations. Also the hate campaign on social media is the propaganda arm of that same policy. Designed to wound grieving families and erode national unity.

Faced with this, the Cuban people’s response must be singular: reaffirm sovereignty. Honor the memory of the fallen with dignity, and redouble the fight against disinformation with facts and truth. As Fidel Castro taught, the battle of ideas is essential. In it, the reason and ethics of the Revolution will triumph over the hatred financed from abroad.
