Holguin with 86 Athletes in National High-Performance Centers

The province of Holguin has 86 athletes enrolled in the national high-performance pre-selection teams for the current school year.

Most of these athletes are at the “Cerro Pelado” and “Giraldo Córdova Cardín” National Centers, located in Havana. Disciplines such as artistic gymnastics stand out with 10 pre-selected athletes. As well as athletics and cycling, with eight in each case.

According to information from Salvador Hidalgo González, head of the High-Performance Department of the Provincial Sports Directorate in Holguin. The name of handball player Ángel Jesús Rivero Noris is highlighted. He currently plays for the Spanish first division club, Frigoríficos del Morrazo.

Among the athletes who continue to play under contracts abroad are soccer players Yasnier Matos Rodríguez, of Municipal in Guatemala. Marco Antonio Campo Surén, who plays for Real Estelí in Nicaragua’s top league. Both have represented Cuba on several occasions.

Since last September, the Higher School of Athletic Improvement (ESPA Nacional) has reopened in Havana. Fifteen student-athletes from Holguin, in the 15-16 age group and youth categories. They participate in the program, including six baseball players.

Additionally, the Technical Centers, located in provinces such as Pinar del Rio, Havana, Sancti Spiritus, and Cienfuegos. Contribute to the development of the Cuban sports pyramid, with six athletes from Holguin participating.
