ICAP’s 65th Anniversary Celebration Begins

With a panel discussion on Fidel Castro and international solidarity. The events commemorating the 65th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP). Founded by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro on December 30th, 1960, began this Saturday.

Two hundred and forty activists from 32 countries arrived in Havana for the anniversary celebration. Also having made personal financial sacrifices to cover their travel and lodging expenses on the island.

Moreover the panel will meet at ICAP headquarters and will feature presentations by directors of the Fidel Castro Center. As well as activists and representatives of the international solidarity movement with Cuba. Which comprises 1,700 friendship associations in 150 countries.

During the anniversary celebration, dedicated to Fidel Castro just days before the start of his centennial year. The book “The Solidarity of the Peoples, Always with Cuba,” about the history of the institution, will be presented.

The opening day at the Fidel Castro Center also includes the inauguration of the photographic exhibition “ICAP, Solidarity, and the Cuban Revolution.” So the unveiling of a commemorative stamp, and a musical performance by troubadours.

Among the visitors are the 120 members from 23 countries of the “ICAP 65th Anniversary” solidarity and volunteer work brigada. Futhermore in which has been active since the beginning of this week. This Saturday, the 53rd contingent of the “Venceremos” brigade from the United States. With approximately 40 young Americans, will join them.

On Sunday 28th, a Volunteer Work Marathon is scheduled with the participation of ICAP’s provincial delegations. While in the afternoon, the House of Friendship will host a “Cultural Festival of Nations.”

Finally the main anniversary event will take place on Monday the 29th at ICAP headquarters. Commemorating 65 years of promoting friendship, defending Cuba and the just causes of peoples, and striving for justice and peace.
