The Cubs face the Pirates in the penultimate game of the Series

After winning four of their five games against Industriales. A feat no other team has accomplished in this 64th National Baseball Series. The Holguin Cubs will face the Isle of Youth Pirates starting this Tuesday. The 9th, at Cristóbal Labra Stadium in Nueva Gerona.

The Cubs, currently second in the standings with a 40-24 record, one game out of first place. Defeated the Pirates in the first, third, fourth, and fifth games with scores of 10-7, 8-2, 15-2, and 7-6, respectively. The Pirates won the second game by a 10-0 mercy rule in seven innings.

Meanwhile, the Pirates, second to last in the overall standings with a 19-45 record and no chance of advancing to the next pase. Lost their most recent game 1-4 on the road against the Villa Clara Leopards.

For this matchup against the Pirates, Holguin will be without their usual third and fourth hitters, Lázaro Cedeño, who is suffering from an arbovirus, and Yasiel González, who injured his leg in Sunday’s game.

Edward Magaña, who is presumably also suffering from a virus, and pitcher Ramiro Rodríguez. Also who has not yet fully recovered from a finger injury on his right hand, also did not make the trip to Isla de la Juventud.

The schedule for the penultimate round of the regular season is completed with the following matchups: Las Tunas vs. Cienfuegos. Matanzas vs. Granma. Santiago vs. Mayabeque; and Industriales vs. Ciego de Avila. Sancti Spiritus-Guantanamo; Artemisa-Villa Clara; and Camagüey-Pinar del Rio.

The playoff zone is currently ranked as follows: Las Tunas (39-21); Holguin (40-24, 1.0 point differential). Matanzas (40-25, 1.5 point differential); Mayabeque (37-25, 3.0 point differential); Industriales (36-26, 4.0 point differential). Cienfuegos (34-27, 5.5 point differential); and Sancti Spiritus (34-31, 7.5 point differential).
