With an eight-kilometer course and the participation of 350 runners from nine provinces. The Fourth Edition of the Bucanero Brewery Marathon Holguin 2025 once again filled the city streets with sporting energy.
The event, organized by the Bucanero Brewery Joint Venture and the provincial INDER (National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation). Started at the brewery and finished in the parking area of the Major General Calixto García Stadium.
This year, both the large number of participants and the high quality of the competition stood out, with entries in all categories. In the women’s open category (18-35 years), the podium was comprised of Melbis Melissa, winner of first place. Followed by Katerine Cruz and Katerine Leonora. In the men’s division, Luis Ángel Martínez took the victory, successfully defending his title from the previous edition. Accompanied by Sergio Turcas and Álvaro Heredia.
The winner of the open category, Luis Ángel Martínez Tejero from Guantanamo, said: “This is my second time participating, and coincidentally, it’s also my second time winning the race. I really enjoy coming here. I’ve been coming for two years and have won both times, so I’m very happy.”
Also the master categories also offered a close competition and varied results. In the women’s Master A category (36-45 years), Yudisleidis Castillo took first place. Followed by Daniela Rivero and Neubis Leliebre. While in the men’s Master A category, Juan Ramón Martínez dominated, with Cristian Labrada and Carlos Ramírez finishing second and third, respectively.
In the women’s Master B category (46-55 years), Yuelmis Mallacén took first place, followed by Maida Suazo. In the men’s Master B category, Yoel Ricardo Hidalgo triumphed. Followed by Pedro Luis Villavicencio, with César Marrero and Alfredo Heredia tied for second.
The women’s Master C category (56-60 years) was won by Erenia Medina, while in the men’s Master C category, Jorge Luis Barzaga Alcolea emerged victorious, followed by Rafael Mestre and Emidel Legrá.
In the women’s Master D category (61+ years), Maida Lantigua secured first place, followed by Lasana Alayo. In the men’s Master D category, Ángel Ferreiro, Osbel Tamayo, and Eleide Rodríguez were the top finishers. The associations also presented awards to their representatives: Armando Hidalgo (ANCI), Ángel Alexis Ortiz (ANSOC), Luis Ángel Durán (ACLIFIM), and Jorge Antonio Casamento (ACDPI).
In addition, the “100 Years for Fidel” Special Award was presented to Leodisnel Amaya, recognizing his outstanding participation in the event. With this day marked by inclusivity, effort, and popular enthusiasm, the Bucanero Brewery Marathon has once again solidified its position as one of Holguin’s traditional sporting events.
