With the Calixto García Íñiguez Revolution Square as a backdrop. The awards ceremony for Latin American Medicine Day took place in Holguin. The central location for national activities commemorating the date.
During the celebration, tribute was paid to professionals in the Cuban Public Health sector. For their outstanding scientific, research, and professional achievements this year.
Presiding over the ceremony were Dr. José Ángel Portal Miranda, Minister of Public Health. Yudixa Sarmiento Rodicio, General Secretary of the National Committee of the Health Workers’ Union. And the highest political, governmental, health, and Cuban Workers’ Federation authorities in the province.

On this occasion, the Lázaro Peña Order, First Class, was awarded to Iván Rodríguez Terrero from Guantanamo. The Second Class to Rafaela Rondón Castro from Camagüey. And the Third Class to Enrique Pérez Figueredo from Las Tunas. The Jesús Menéndez Medal was also presented to nine outstanding workers in the sector from across the country.
The event also served as the occasion for the presentation of the Internationalist Worker Medal. Recognizing extraordinary work achievements by Jorge Enrique Márquez Camayd, Luis Antonio Liy Rodríguez. Georgina Gallego Serrano, Elio Proenza Peña, Gisela De los Reyes Díaz. Nancy Chang Cutiño, Carmen Lamorú de la Cruz, Emilio Serra Hernández, and Elianis Ocaña Samada.

The “Manuel Piti Fajardo” Distinction was awarded to 10 workers in recognition of their merits and uninterrupted service of 20 and 25 years. Also who have maintained an exemplary and consistent performance in preserving and caring for the health of our people. The Juan Tomas Roig Distinction was also awarded to a dozen professionals.

With more than half a century of uninterrupted dedication, challenges, and achievements, the Commemorative Seal was awarded to Lauro Melo Aguilera, Alina Batista Sánchez. Alberto Jesús Villavicencio, and Martha Cabrales Hernández. They represent a lifetime of service and serve as a living testament to the fact that true commitment is measured by the constancy of daily service.


Finally, the “85th Anniversary of the Founding of the CTC” Seal. The highest moral recognition given to workers, union leaders, individuals, and work teams that stand out for their high and sustained results in production, services, teaching, and research.
As well as for their significant contributions to society and the defense of the Socialist Homeland, was awarded to the teams of the Octavio de la Concepción de la Pedraja Pediatric Hospital, the Lucía Íñiguez Landín Clinical-Surgical Hospital, and the Vladimir Ilich Lenin General University Hospital.
