Cuba is currently expanding its popularity among Italian tourists, thanks to the diverse and high-quality offerings of the Caribbean nation. As highlighted in Rome during an event held at the Cuban Embassy.
The Cuban Ambassador to Italy, Mirta Granda, and the Tourism Counselor at the diplomatic mission, Yanet Mora, expressed their gratitude for the large turnout of tour operators and specialists from the tourism sector.
Mora gave a detailed presentation on the main tourist attractions of the “Unique Cuba” campaign. While also emphasizing the quantitative and qualitative leap observed in the sector.
The event included the participation of Rosa Nieves, director of the Cubana de Aviación office in Italy, and Donatella Campanile, sales executive for the airline, who announced a new air route that, starting December 2nd, will connect the German city of Frankfurt with the Cuban cities of Holguin and Havana. These flights are in addition to those regularly operated by the airline from Madrid to Santiago de Cuba and Havana.
Andrea Vecchi, director of the Italian tour operator Criand, gave a presentation in which she emphasized that “Cuba has returned to the center of the international tourism debate” despite “a distorted narrative constructed on social media and amplified by media campaigns.”
She stated that “those who visit the island today discover a very different reality: a country in transformation, welcoming, safe, and increasingly attentive to the needs of travelers.”
The specialist noted that “the emerging picture is that of a country that has known how to react to the difficult post-Covid-19 period with a series of structural transformations.” Citing as an example the fact that hotel chains now have the ability to directly import products and supplies.
In this way, she said, obstacles to the competitiveness of these tourist facilities are overcome. Obstacles stemming from the restrictions of the criminal economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed for more than 60 years by the United States, a violation of the human rights of the Cuban people.
“At the same time, the opening to private enterprise, a recent and impactful phenomenon, is contributing to the emergence of new, modern, dynamic, and tourism-oriented activities,” the expert added.
The CEO of Criand stated that Cuba is not just beaches and hotels, which is why her company offers “sustainable itineraries in agricultural communities and historical tours following in the footsteps of the Revolution.” As well as “tours featuring rum, cigars, and local traditions.”
Added to this is the hospitality of the Cuban people, which “remains one of the most recognized strengths for visitors,” Vecchi added.
