Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant Synchronized with the SEN

At 2:59 p.m. this Thursday, the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant was synchronized with the National Electrical System (SEN). After undergoing light maintenance that included more than 500 corrective and cleaning tasks.

The plant now assumes the load ramp-up process, which is slow and risky, and requires close attention to efficiency parameters. Commented Rubén Campos Olmo, general manager of the plant. Recognized as the largest and most efficient unit of its kind in the country.

He also explained that during the maintenance, work was carried out in essential areas such as the boiler and the condenser. Measures were taken to prevent excessive water consumption. The regenerative air heaters (RAHs) were cleaned; and a significant number of other tasks were performed in areas such as automation and mechanics.

A post on the generating unit’s Facebook page states that the maintenance work associated with the critical path. Also which included repairs to the high-temperature superheater and the feeder tank, was successfully completed after the corresponding pneumatic and hydraulic tests.

Brigades from the Power Plant Maintenance Company, hailing from several provinces, including Santiago de Cuba and Holguin. Territories recently affected by Hurricane Melissa played a significant role in the work.

Although it was estimated that the plant would synchronize with the National Electric System (SEN) on Wednesday night. Setbacks during startup, related to a valve and a generator issue, prevented the process from proceeding as planned. The plant restarted at 5:00 a.m. on Thursday.
