With a 15-5 knockout victory in seven innings against one of their closest rivals. The Matanzas Crocodiles, the Holguin Cubs began the tenth game of the 64th National Baseball Series.
In their return to Major General Calixto García Stadium, the Holguin team unleashed a 15-hit offensive, led by Lázaro Cedeño, who went 3-for-4. Including his 12th and 13th home runs, and six RBIs, bringing his total to 53 and taking the lead in that category. Luis Raúl Domínguez also contributed with two doubles in three at-bats and three RBIs.
Other standouts at the plate included Michael Gorgüet and Jorlis Bravo, who went 2-for-4 with a home run. As well as Edward Magaña and Jolber Naranjo, who also went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The win went to Ramiro Rodríguez (1-0), who pitched five innings. Allowing six hits and three earned runs, with seven strikeouts and one walk. Jesús Quintán gave up two hits and two earned runs in two innings, striking out two and walking one.
The loss went to starter Pedro Mesa (5-3), who recorded only two outs. Surrendering six hits and four earned runs. Brayan Peña hit a home run for the losing side.
With this victory, the Cubs reached 30 wins in the tournament and increased their lead at the top to two games. As the Industriales of Havana fell 9-3 to the reigning champions, the Leñadores of Las Tunas, at the Latinoamericano Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Huracanes of Mayabeque, visiting at the Tomás López Stadium, fell 8-4 to the Leopardos of Villa Clara, seeing their six-game winning streak snapped.
At their home stadium in the 26 de Julio neighborhood, the Cazadores of Artemisa were defeated by the Avispas of Santiago de Cuba with a final score of 9-4. After having beaten them in the first two games of the week.
At the José Ramón Cepero Stadium, the Elefantes of Cienfuegos remained firmly in the top spot after defeating the Tigres of Ciego de Avila 4-0. At Capitán San Luis Stadium. The Vegueros secured their third consecutive victory against the Indios de Guantanamo. Defeating them 10-2, to continue their fight for a postseason berth.
