Holguin Reports Intense Rains Associated with Cold Front

The province of Holguin has recorded rainfall accumulations exceeding 100 millimeters (mm) in the last 48 hours. Associated with a cold front passing through the Caribbean.

Juan Mario Echavarría Hernández, territorial delegate of Hydraulic Resources, told the Cuban News Agency (CNA) that 109 mm and 103 mm of precipitation were recorded in Solis Castro and at the Sagua de Tanamo Telepostal Center.

He noted that these accumulations have caused flooding. Therefore actions are being taken to protect the technical infrastructure of the water supply systems. The official specified that more than 11,000 customers in Sagua de Tanamo. One of the most affected municipalities, have water service, while the reservoirs, which are in good technical condition, are being monitored.
In eastern Holguin, the evacuation of residents from low-lying areas continues after river flooding was reported in Sagua and Moa. Affecting several communities, including the Pedro Soto Alba neighborhood, known as Ecrin.

According to the Institute of Meteorology, the weather conditions are associated with a cold front affecting the area. So cloudy skies, showers, and thunderstorms are expected to continue in the coming hours.

Civil Defense urges the public to comply with all established measures. Stay away from swollen rivers and low-lying areas, and prioritize life as the most fundamental human right.
