Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel thanked his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, on Saturday for the aid sent by the South American government to help alleviate the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa.
“Thank you, dear @petrogustavo, for the donations sent for those affected by Hurricane #Melissa in eastern #Cuba,” the Cuban president wrote on social media.
In the same message, Díaz-Canel expressed his appreciation for the selfless and immediate support. “Which will help the recovery efforts we are carrying out in the affected areas.”
The aid was processed by the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other Colombian institutions.
The donation includes 244.4 tons of food, hygiene products, fuel, and drinking wáter. Intended to assist those affected in the eastern region.
Also the shipment departed last Monday, November 3rd, from the “ARC Bolívar” Naval Base, and after a four-day voyage, arrived this Thursday at the Guillermón Moncada port in the Hero City of Santiago de Cuba.
