The Telecommunications Company S.A. (Etecsa by the Spanish acronym) in Holguin is working intensively to restore all services affected by the recent Hurricane Melissa. Achieving significant progress in just 24 hours. According to Iliana Fernández, a communications specialist at the institution.
Fernández detailed the current status of services in the Holguin province:
Commercial services have seen a rapid recovery. With 85% of the commercial network already providing service to the public. The remaining units are expected to be operational starting tomorrow. Landline telephone service is experiencing considerable disruption, with approximately 42% of lines out of service.
Of the 69 Emergency Generators (EGs), 14 are currently out of service. 71% of the radio base stations are not operating due to the lack of electricity. So far, 98 damaged utility poles have been reported throughout the province.
To expedite the return to normal service, additional forces have been deployed to the area. “Two brigades from the Havana Territorial Division arrived in the province yesterday,” confirmed the specialist. In the municipality of Moa, a line brigade from Holguin is working to restore communications.
At the same time, progress is being made in clearing branches from the overhead fiber optic cable along the Holguin-Cacocum section. The section from Cacocum to the Cristo Naranjo intersection has also been repaired. Work is currently underway on the remaining section from the entrance of Cristino to Holguin.
Channels for reporting outages
ETECSA reminds the public that to report landline telephone service interruptions. They can send a text message (SMS) to 114 from a mobile phone. The company reiterates its commitment to continue working uninterruptedly. Until all its services in the province are fully restored.
