Major General Eugenio Armando Rabilero Aguilera, commander of the Eastern Army, accompanied by Joel Queipo Ruiz, president of the Provincial Defense Council in Holguin. They verified the readiness of rescue and salvage brigades to confront the consequences of Tropical Storm Melissa.
According to the institution itself on its social media, during the tour, the readiness of the forces and resources of the Military Region. Responsible for supporting the Defense Councils in each territory, was verified. Also according to military authorities, the salvage brigades guaranteed human and technical resources for the protection of the population and damage reduction.
The Civil Defense reiterated the importance of complying with the prescribed measures. Including securing homes, protecting documents and property. Storing drinking water and non-perishable food, and remaining calm as the weather event progresses.
Moreover the need to evacuate early when indicated by authorities. Avoid coastal areas and swollen rivers, and coordinate solidarity actions with neighbors. Especially the elderly, children, and vulnerable people, was also emphasized.
Finally the guidelines included the protection of social facilities such as schools and hospitals. As well as the preservation of domestic and livestock animals in safe places. This preparation of the Eastern Army forces and the implementation of Civil Defense. So measures are part of the safety system planned to deal with meteorological phenomena of this nature.
