After their victory over Venezuela, the Cuban team finished in sixth place in the Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities, which concluded this Saturday in Astana, Kazakhstan.

In the sixth and decisive round, the Cubans defeated the Venezuelans 3.5-0.5 to reach eight points out of a possible 12, the result of four wins and two losses.
The victories on the closing round were secured at the first three tables by Pedro Morales, Carlos Larduet, and Héctor Luis Fuentes from Holguin. While Idalis Batista also drew on board four.
For Fuentes, a 19-year-old, this was his international debut, and he left with three wins, two losses, and a draw.
The International Chess Federation (FIDE-1) main team led the standings with 11 points. Followed by Poland (10), followed by Israel, the International Chess Association for the Deaf. And the Philippines, in third to fifth place with nine points.
The first edition of the Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities was held in 2023 in Belgrade, Serbia. Marking a milestone for events known as the Science of the Game.
