Educators on internationalist mission in Honduras arrive in Holguin

A contingent of more than 60 collaborators from the José Manuel Flores Arguijo National Literacy Program, using the Cuban “Yes, I Can” methodology. From the eastern region of Cuba, arrived at Frank País Airport in Holguin after successfully completing a three-year internationalist mission in the Republic of Honduras. An educational epic that transformed the lives of thousands of people.

The mission undertaken by the Cuban educators represented a major challenge. As they had to carry out their work in complex and difficult-to-access geographies. With boundless dedication, they brought education to the most vulnerable populations and communities with special needs, regardless of ethnicity, political beliefs, or ideologies. Demonstrating that the light of knowledge knows no borders.

During the emotional welcome in the province, Holguin’s educational authorities emphasized that the volunteers not only taught reading and writing. But also left an indelible mark on the Honduran people of the altruism and solidarity that characterize our country.

In this space of recognition for those who brought the “bread of knowledge” to sister lands. Dr. C. Miladys De la Rosa Marrero, program coordinator, highlighted the profound human significance of this experience. A journey of personal and professional growth, where indestructible bonds of brotherhood were forged and the power of education to dignify and unite peoples was confirmed.

With the valuable collaboration of Cuban professionals and the successful implementation of the “Yes, I Can” method. Honduras achieved a historic milestone by being declared a territory free of illiteracy. This victory, a primary goal of President Xiomara Castro’s administration. Not only eradicated a social scourge but also demonstrated once again the results of Cuba’s internationalist cooperation. Reaffirming its commitment to a more just and educated world for all.
